News from Central Learning Centre
November 1, 2006
Over the last few months, a number of parents and teachers have expressed an interest in hearing more about the services that Central Learning Centre has to offer as well as interesting facts, events, seminars etc. So, I have decided to start a monthly newsletter with information on things that have been happening within the Centre. I would also like to invite you to email me with suggestions for topics - areas that you would like to hear more about or even news that you would like to share. We would especially love to hear about how our past students are getting on, about their experiences at University and their workplace. Due to increasing demand, Central Learning Centre is offering home tutoring within the GTA and within the next month we will also be offering on line tutoring. We have found that many students need or would like that extra help to get a step ahead but are unable to either get to the facility or find the travelling time cuts into their busy schedule. On line tutoring is a great way to get tutoring help in the comfort of their homes. We have a great resource of wonderful tutors. All of our tutors are either qualified teachers, professionals in their particular field or in Special Education. If there is a subject that you are interested in, please let us know as very often we have a tutor who is knowledgeable in this area. One subject that is presenting itself is for lessons in Mandarin. This is definitely an up and coming language in our community If this is a subject of interest please let us know. We would like to welcome Willow Academy to the building. Willow Academy moved here in August of this year. I visited the school last week. The classrooms have a wall of glass overlooking the trees and street which make them feel bright and airy. Because everything is new, there is a lovely atmosphere that makes it conducive to learning. Tammy Barnett is the Principal who is " committed to the principles of enrichment teaching and learning" They are a co-educational independent school for children in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6. In October I became certified in the teaching of Direct Instruction. This is a prescriptive method of the teaching of reading for example. This program is for the early grades and is being implemented in certain schools. For those of you who may be interested, on November 2nd at 7 - 8:30, the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine is offering a free seminar for parents of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The lecturer will be showing how naturopathic medicine can help. Let us hear your news Regards Christine
