February 2008

August 4, 2008

Hello

I hope you have had a good start to the new year. It does
not seem possible that this is February and Valentine’s Day
is here! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Last week marked the start of a new semester which is
another way of telling us that we are half way through the
school year. Once again the debate is opened as to which is
better, a school that is semester or one that is not? What
do you think? We would love to hear your thoughts and
experiences. I know the kids seem to prefer the semester
school as they only have four subjects to focus but for the
student who is weak in Math for example there has been a
long time since he/she was working on this subject. Math is
a subject which depends on practice and the more one
practices the better one becomes. In a semester school this
is not possible. Instead, the student is thrust into a Math
class which moves at a great pace building on concepts that
he/she was working on in some cases over a year ago.

We would like to hear from past students of their
achievements. Recently we learned that one of our past
students was made an Ontario Scholar. Another student sat
her Entrance Examination to Oxford University at the
Central Learning Centre over the Christmas holidays. Lots
of good things are happening so please let us know what
your child is doing. Another student was given a
certificate for showing acts of kindness in the classroom.
Talking of kindnesses one of our tutors found a young
student “lost” outside our building. She brought him
inside, we contacted the school and everyone was happy that
night!

For the early learner there is a website to check out
www.maestroreading.com where you will find reading games
and story books to enjoy. Let me know what you think.

Please email us with any news you might have.

Have a great Family Day

Best Regards
Christine
